New Construction Projects Begin

Outdoor Activity Space
Work began on June 6th, 2016 on Mound Westonka High School outdoor
Field 2, which will include regrading, improving field drainage, adding an irrigation system, and adding additional parking. This project is funded by a Hennepin County grant, Westonka Community Education and school district fund balance, and a generous donation from the Westonka Soccer Club. The field is projected to be ready for use by youth and high school sports teams by fall 2017.

Early Childhood Center
The district is also moving forward with phase one of a two-phase early childhood center addition at Hilltop Primary School. The first phase of the project will move the 4-year-old preschool program onto the school campus, addressing our current preschool waiting lists and providing room for future growth. This project is funded by the district lease levy and district and community ed. fund balance. In late August, we will be begin construction, with the goal of having the facility open for the 2017-2018 school year.

Community Athletics & Rec. Center and Performing Arts Center
We are extremely grateful to Westonka voters for supporting the board’s plan to address activity space constraints with these community spaces. Over the next several months, the school board facilities committee will proceed with the planning, design and bidding of the new facilities. This summer we will be putting together design work groups, which will include representatives from the schools and the general public. The goal is to have both facilities open for school and public use by the fall of 2018.
